Flashback
2012-November specifically, We basked in the euphoria of being freshers in a federal university. Our joy knew no bounds but soon, it was overshadowed by the stress of being in a University of technology. Year ones then; it was latest 6:30 to the lecture hall or no seats for us; ques longer than a train for different registrations; extortion from bike men who knew whats up, some could charge us as much as #100 for a less than 10m journey. Some of us thought that it was better than trekking aimlessly...asking for directions always did the trick anyway. Drawing boards were the registered® trademarks™ of year one students©. Fortunately for few, there was always an exception to every rule and these few benefitted because they were informed. Didn't the Bible say that "...people perish for lack of knowledge?..." Most of what we did then were unnecessary in their totality and soon, many started to grow up. Well wishers kept on egging us on; "things would only get easier and less stressfull" they would say. Others told us otherwise; "things will actually get tougher, you only have to be wiser and work harder". We prefered the former to the latter and like the proverbial dry meat, we chewed it in times when we hungered for relief from stress induced psychological and emotional hunger. We viewed the latter as vituperations and their propagators as naysayers. We avoided the reality it potrayed before us like plague. Fast foward to 2015-Things seem to be getting harder and "us"- wiser! We had the numbers while in year one and all you had to do was avoid being noticed by lecturers and your full marks was preserved. But now, we have been segregated along faculty and departmental lines. The lecturers now know us even when we don't know them, our every move is now being monitored and analysed, and we are now being groomed to be ready to face the harsh realities of life as a "one man team". Unfortunately, many have exceeded their elastic limits and are aproaching their yeild points(breaking points). Many have failed to see the beauty in these. We have been pushed beyond our limits and many think that "they" want to destroy us but a saying goes thus "what can't destroy makes stronger". This saying remains my mantra and stand I shall even when many are falling.
